Rocky the Musician

Since I was four, music has been a huge part of my life. I started out playing classical piano as a seventh generation Beethoven student under Duane Hampton in Redding, California. How exactly do you become a seventh generation Beethoven student?

Like this: Beethoven taught someone, who then taught someone, who then taught someone, who also then taught someone, who taught someone, who taught Duane Hampton, who taught me.

It soon became apparent, however, that despite Beethoven's overwhelming responsibility for teaching me music, I wasn't really into 'the classics.'

At that point, I quit classical piano lessons and started playing piano covers and blues improv. I owe a huge part of this decision to the teachings of my uncle, who now occasionally performs with Steve Miller, Al Jardine, Neil Young, and Flea from the Chili Peppers. You can check out Scott Slaughter's latest, here.

Now, I play drums, keys, guitar, and bass for various rock, jazz, and blues groups. In high school, I sang in the choir program and formed a few barbershop groups. In 2005, I was able to sing with one barbershop group on the streets of Dublin, Paris, Edinburgh, and London. That was easily one of the top experiences of my life.

I also started recording music in high school and now piece together various songs and jingles with a home studio. I will be posting various tracks on this page, so check back for updates.
